Suggest Treatment For Arthritis
Question: I'm 62 and fit. From a standing position I can bend over and touch my toes or even the floor easily. However, the lateral flexibility (of my lower body) is terrible. For instance, when I spread my legs apart my feet won't go further than 2 feet/24 inches apart from one another. I have serious arthritis in my right hip. My question: Would/should getting the hip replaced result in a substantial improvement in my lower body lateral flexibility?
Brief Answer:
Total hip replacement will improve flexibilty
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for trusting HealthcareMagic for your health concern
Undergoing total hip replacement surgery will markedly reduce pain and improve flexibility.
You will be able to spread your legs apart laterally further than what you are doing now (even though flexibility equalent to pre-arthritis period cannot be expected). Hip replacement followed by physical therapy to improve muscle strength and adequate healing time (which is usually 6 months in most people) are important to restore flexibility.
