Brief Answer:
Geting him motivated is the essential for his treatment

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for using healthcaremagic.

I read your query and understand your concerns.

In cases where patient do not have willingness to quit alcohol, it really becomes difficult till the health services encounter. In patients where they do not seek treatment I generally ask family members to wait till next health services interaction. This health encounter may be for patient or some other family member. Sometime when the problem is in extreme form, family member can just create medical situation to meet a doctor.

Once he meets any doctor/ counselor he may convince him to take treatment for stopping alcohol and even he is not able to convince him completely, the process will be started.

Other than that as a good family member try to find out the reasons of his alcohol intake and situations. If he over drinks on almost all occasions than he may be having impulse control disorder.

If you can locate his friends ask them to convince him to quit alcohol. Even it is advisable to cut bad friends from his company.

To conclude waiting for right time, while finding out the reason is most warranted.

I must inform you that no medicine works against patient wish. Even they can be dangerous to patient. So convincing him the right step in his treatment process.

Hope I am able to answer your concerns.
