Have Problem With Long Hair. Have A Habit Of Pulling Hair. What To Do?

Hi, my name is Kieran and I am 16 years of age... I have a long hair and was pulling on it, and actually as I pulled on it, it felt like it was wrapped round something because when I pulled harder it hurt and had to let go... So I waited 1/2mins then started again, but this time when I pulled only half a ruler length snapped off yet I'm sure it must be a full 30cm ruler lengthed hair, I am very worried... Will this come out as I casually do poo's and farts? As its worrying me?

Hi,
Welcome and thanks for posting your query to HCM.

It appears from your query that you are having the problem typicaly known as "Trichotillomania". It is an compulsive urge to pull out the hair from the areas which are accessible to the fingers for pulling out the hair.

Now to understand it better it is a kind of "impulse control disorder" which is simply due to the impulsive nature of the patient. It is especially seen in young female patients who are emotionally disturbed or of any kind of aggressive nature.

The treatment is quite simple with certain drugs with mouth and psychological counseling under psychiatric guidance. So you should meet a psychiatrist at the earliest to get rid of the problem. In between try to give positive suggestions to yourself, keep yourself busy, do stress and anger management by "Yoga" and breathing exercises.
Hope these informations will help.

With good health wishes"
