Suggest Treatment For Acid Reflux, Constant Stomach Cramps And Sharp Pain

default
Posted on Mon, 3 Nov 2014
Question: I have pretty bad acid reflux and I take Zantac once or twice a day along with Gaviscon if I need it. I also try to avoid tomato and other foods that upset my stomach. I usually drink 3-5 12 ounce cans of coke a day and recently I've been trying to cut back. I had coffee last night and this morning I've had constant cramps and sharp pains. I'm not sure how to explain the pain but my stomach gets tight, crampy, and I have sharp pains that kind of sprawl out in certain spots. I'm concerned I might develop ulcers if I don't already have them. Is there a prescription that will help more than Zantac or Prilosec? I'm just wondering if it's worth it for me to go to a doctor.

Brief Answer:
its worth to consult surgeon

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Welcome to HealthcareMagic .

I suggest you to consult a surgeon and get endoscopy done. Endoscopy is needed as from long time you are having this problem and also by endoscopy the severity of reflux can be diagnosed.

One more advantage is they take biopsy and test for H pylori infection. This is a infection which cause reflux and acidity and doesn't subside by anti acid drugs. If H pylori positive then you need to take treatment for that.

And you should avoid coke and coffee completely as much as possible because it increases reflux. Other drug you may try is pantoprazole which is more efficient then prilosec and zantac. If the attacks continue the possibility is there you may develop ulcers.

Endoscopy(tube passed in food pipe to see it) will diagnose if already any ulcers are there .

Hope I have answered your query . If any further queries are there I would love to help.
