Posted on Tue, 25 Aug 2015
Question: I am 4 weeks post op from a left ovary and tube removal. Yesterday I started my menstral cycle and I'm having the same type of pain in my left lower abdomen as before my surgery. I have a history of rupturing ovary cysts, but figured it can't be that because I just had surgery. I'm going to the restroom fine including bowels. I'm not sure what the pain could be

Brief Answer:
may be a scar tissues or adhesions.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Welcome to HCM.
I can understand your concerns.

Pain in abdomen after surgery should be thoroughly evaluated.

Has the pain just developed with menstruation or it was present prior to that also?

It could be a scar tissue or adhesions or may be another abdominal pathology.

Did you have a laparoscopy or an open surgery?

Had any other surgery in past?

Have you undergone ultrasound or any other tests postoperatively to determine cause of pain?

Is naproxen helping in this pain?

Can you describe the character of pain? Like sharp-shooting or dull or heaviness?

Hope to hear from you soon.
Take care.
Thanks.

I have had one laparoscopy 9 years ago. This one was also laparoscopic. The naproxen is not helping and the pain is sharp. I did not have any post surgery ultrasounds.

The pain just started with menstral. Same side as ovary and tube removal.

Brief Answer:
ultrasound; diagnostic laparoscopy.

Detailed Answer:
Hello again.

As you are having sharp pain which is not resolving with medications, I would suggest you to go for ultrasound examination to rule out any abdominal/pelvic pathology.

In some cases, healing after surgery takes time. This can also cause pain.
In my opinion, a course of antibiotics along with painkiller medicines should help in pain.

If the ultrasound does not reveal anything and pain persists even after antibiotics, you can go for diagnostic laparoscopy. This will help to find out the cause.

Kindly consult your doctor and discuss about this.

Hope this helps.
I wish you well.
Thanks.
