Suggest Treatment For Abdominal And Pelvic Pain

default
Posted on Wed, 15 Jun 2016
Question: Hello

In brief my symptoms: mild abdo pain, pain under left rib that comes and goes. Sometimes burning pain but more often a dull ache that lasts for a few minutes. Sometimes just a feeling of fullness. I did think stomach ulcer? Pain started 9 months ago. Abdo pain is soreness when pressed, grumbly pains that come and go.

Mild constipation although this is normal for me. No blood in stools, normal colour and size Have had mucous in stool in past but not recently.

Originally saw gp because I was concerned about ovarian cancer. Mild pelvic pain and lower back pain symptoms for three years. She did internal and felt tummy and wasnt concerned. She said might be ibs and did calprotectin test.

Results are back today of 98. I'm very worried in case this indicates cancer. My reflexologist tells me that my descending colon is congested and this worries me. My latest blood results are attached. Panicking thinking ovarian cancer has spread to bowel and this is causing symptoms now.

Please help. Im going out of my mind with worry.

Brief Answer:
Colonoscopy and CT scan of the abdomen

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query and an elucidate history.
To recapitulate: Female/43 - mild abdominal pain - under left rib that comes and goes - sometimes burning - more often dull that lasts for a few minutes - fullness - ? stomach ulcer - mild constipation and mucus in stool in past and not recently - GP - concerned about ovarian cancer - mild pelvic pain and lower back pan for 3 years - says IBS and did calprotectin - 98 - now worried about cancer - Reflexologist says descending colon is congested - panicked and out of mind with worries...

This is called cancer-phobia.
And the best solution is to go for the proper tests and investigations to confirm or ''rule-out'' cancer to have peace of mind.
Calprotectin shows inflammation and not specific for cancer and is in the range to worry about, which in your case may be due to colitis causing the symptoms you have.
I would advise you the following:
Get an appointment for colonoscopy and CT scan of the whole abdomen as this will help you to get the correct diagnosis and a plan for further treatment, will help to get alleviation from fear of cancer of the colon or ovary.

I hope your GP has given you Vitamin D supplements.

I hope this answer helps you to get an early and proper diagnosis and curative treatment, please feel free to ask for further relevant queries if you feel that there is a gap of communication.
