Suggest Treatment For PCOS And Irregular Periods

Question: Hi, I have a question about the possibility of pregnancy and when I should be able to restart birth control. My last menstural cycle began on December 11th until the 15th. I had unprotected sex on December 17th. I am not regular with my cycle since I have PCOS. I've taken two home tests both negative and I had a blood test done at my doctors office yesterday (January 6, 2015) and was told today that it was negative, but to wait two weeks and retest if I haven't started by the nurse. Is it likely the blood test was falsely negative although I haven't had sex since December 17? When can I start my birth control safely since I may not have a cycle until I restart because of PCOS?

Brief Answer:
Wait till 15th.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
The blood test becomes positive after 10-12 days of conception. Since you had unprotected sex on 17th the blood test should have showed positive by now. The negative test report is not likely to be false negative.
Your last period started on 11th. It is best to wait till 15th for your next period to start spontaneously and in case there is no bleeding till then due to PCOS then do get a repeat pregnancy blood test done and start with the pill. Be careful not to have sex till then.
Please feel free to discuss further. I will be glad to answer the follow up queries that you have.
Wishing you good health.

I have begun to have a clear mucus discharge as well as abdominal cramps. Does this make it more likely to be pregnant? Or is this normal? I'm really worried about being pregnant. Is there anything I can do before the 15th? Or, I should just wait?

Brief Answer:
Pregnancy not likely.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
The clear mucus discharge is a normal finding. The chances of pregnancy after a negative test are almost zero. Please do not worry and wait for a week more.
Hope my answer is helpful.
