Question: If my boyfriend had flu like symptoms, fever, body aches and sore lower back one month and the following month I was diagnosed with hsv2. Is it safe to say I most likely got it from him? I had been with him for a year at this time. He never has had any lesions. He has not been tested and not sure he is goin to?

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for the query.
Yes, it is likely that it was contracted from him if you didnt have any other contacts, and if he is HSV postiive. but it cant be claimed for sure. Primary herpes infection symptoms can occur 5-14 days after contact. Also if one partner has herpes than the other can get it at any time since it is impossible to know at which period will it be tranmissable. herpes can be dormant for whole life or have periods of break ups. Most of time it is not active, but it is not easy to predict is it tranmissable or not at particular periods. Also, symptoms that you mentioned in your BF can be sign of primary infection or it can be sign of reactivation so it is possible that he got herpes many years ago.It would be smart for him to get tested too. Wish you good health.
