Suggest Remedy For Tongue Enlargement Caused By Macroglossia

default
Posted on Thu, 21 Jan 2016
Question: I often get this feeling that my tongue is too large for my mouth! It's pressing hard at the back of my front teeth and I have to make an effort to keep it back. The pressure usually disappears after a few weeks, only to come back soon again. No pain , just annoying pressure. This has been going on for a couple of years. TIA,

Sincerely, xxxxxx

Brief Answer:
Allergies, medication, injury.

Detailed Answer:
Hi

I have gone through your query.

Enlargement of the tongue, referred to as macroglossia, can be caused by allergies, medications, injuries.
Some medications that have this side effect are ACE inhibitors (to treat high blood pressure) and NSAIDs (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) such as Aleve, Advil, and aspirin. Are you taking any of these medication?

Do you feel or see any Enlargement of tongue?
Do you have sore throat? Cold? Or any allergies?
Have you noticed this change on consumption any particular food?

An examination is must, so as to confirm, and say, you have large tongue. For that I would request you to visit a physician for examination and to clear your doubt.

This provisional advice provided by me is based entirely on the input provided to me. I would suggest examination by the doctor.

I hope this suggestion might be of some help to you.
Take care.

Brief Answer:
Isolated enlarged tongue might not be associated with thyroid problem

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome.
Even though enlarged tongue has been noted with hypothyroidism but other symptoms are also will be seen, isolated Enlargement of tongue, is less likely to be associated with thyroid.
But still you can get a thyroid function test, you can enquire about this investigation with your local health care provider.
Hope this helps.
