Posted on Mon, 9 Feb 2015
Question: my husband has suddenly developed tingling, redness, swelling, pain and burning in the TIP of his nose (not inside) he has had no accident or injury to the area.

Relevant information: he has rosacea in the eyes. On the bridge of his nose he has a patch of dry skin which doesn't heal (past 3 years). Doctor has previously said that it is not skin cancer.

Brief Answer:
Nasal manifestation could also be a part of rosacea.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX! Good evening. I am Dr Shareef, a general surgeon answering your query.

Rosacea could also affect the nose and the present tingling, swelling, redness and pain with burning could be a manifestation. There could be an element of Raynaud's phenomena associated with rosacea whenever there is a change in the temperature from cold to warm/hot, and so he has to avoid such situations. This might become more pronounced under the sun. So I would advise him to avoid hot XXXXXXX outdoors.

There are several soothing creams available in the market, but few might be actually helpful in relieving the problem of the nose. Also I would advise him to avoid alcohol and smoking if he does, which could also precitpitate his symptoms. Protection of the face and specially the eyes should be the rule.

I would advise him to get it assessed by a dermatologist/physician to get it managed for proper symptomatic relief.

I hope this information would help you in discussing with your family physician/treating doctor in further management of your problem. Please do not hesitate to ask in case of any further doubts.

Thanks for choosing health care magic to clear doubts on your health problems. I wish you an early recovery. Dr Shareef.
