Question: My heart rate has been between 120 and 1th for the past few days. I had pressure in my sternum and between my shoulder blades. I also have a sharp pain in the left side of my neck by my carotid artery. I have pain when I breathe deeply. I was hospitalized 2 days ago with a sinus tachycardia. I was discharged with prednisone, ativan, loratidine and a daily baby aspirin. My heart rate still hasn't slowed down, even with ativan and I have a killer headache. Just makes me nervous. Any suggestions

Brief Answer:
I'm waiting for the test reports!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you for asking!
I read your query and would like say that I need more information before giving an accurate answer.

It's essential to know if you have been diagnosed with anemia, infection or allergy. Can you please upload the results of the examinations they have done at hospital? This way I would be able to recommend other tests to find out what is causing your symptoms.

For the moment you shouldn't worry about the high rate. Although it's slightly elevated it's not harmful. The only problems it will cause discomfort and anxiety.

Meanwhile, I suggest to continue with treatment and to add advil 1 capsule in the morning and one in evening to relieve your symptoms.

I'm waiting for the test reports!
Wish you health!

sorry about the typo. upon admission my heart rate was 145 and BP 168/120. chest xrays were normal, ekg was sinus tachycardia with few pvc. my WBC was 14,500. all blood work for cardiac workup was within normal limits. since being home on ativan, my heart rate remains between 120 and 145. I can feel it bounding and it shakes my entire body. not sure if it's the prednisone or the heart rate giving me such a bad headache, but it's terrible. I do take 800mg ibuprofen every 6 hours as well for the chest pain.

Brief Answer:
Following advice...

Detailed Answer:
Hi back,

Since your cardiac problems and arrhythmia were excluded, your problems may be related to hypertension. Your BP was around 170/120 mmHg and your HR 145 bpm on admission which are very high and explain the head ache and tachycardia that you are experiencing.

If you were my patient would have recommended to start antihypertensive therapy with a beta blocker (that will normalize HR and headache too) and diovan. With such a case at my clinic I would have given you:
1. Nebivolol 5 mg (1/2 pill in the morning and 1/2 pill n the evening)
2. Diovan 80 mg 1 pill in the evening

Hope this will be of help!
Wish you health!
