Question: I have severe Scoliosis, Arthritis, and several other problems. I have been taking Vicodin for a long time for the pain. A new Doctor recently prescribed 30 mg Morphine which made me very Nauseous so I cut in down to half. Since then I have been very short of breath. Could this be the cause?

Brief Answer:
82 yr old short of breath

Detailed Answer:
is a reason for immediate attention.

Doubt it is the morphine. Morphine is very good to TREAT shortness of breath. It has circulatory effects that other narcotics do not. If someone were having withdrawal shortness is not a usual symptom and other symptoms (pain, nausea/vomiting/diarrhea get noticed!). so.... cannot ascribe it to the medication nor underlying pain (although one can have an allergy to morphine it is uncommon and mostly first time you see it).
so.... sudden shortness of breath.. elderly... very concerning.
