Suggest Remedy For Severe Pain Due To Nerve Damage

Question: Hello, I had spinal surgery in the early nineties. First a laminectomy and I felt great for a few months and all the back pain and sciatica returned so I then had more surgery a fusion of L5/S1. After a couple of weeks I began getting pain like electric shocks when I moved a certain way. Xrays were done and there were no answers so after a few months of complaining I was given antidepressants and sent for counselling! I eventually got a referral to see the Neurosurgeon again he did xrays and scans, nothing seemed wrong, Then he decided to do a Mylegram and because I was in the sitting position he could see that a screw had come out and was doing all sorts of damage and so more surgery. Now I am getting this twitching and spasms which is keeping me awake at night. My GP ignores me when I talk about it. I still get sciatica because of nerve damage. Please help me!

Brief Answer:
Can be electrolyte or Vitamin B 12 deficiency.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
The muscle twitches and spasms if these are generalized- happen all over the body then these are not likely to be related to the spinal issue.
You might consult your doctor who can order
1. a few blood tests including thyroid function tests,
2. Serum electrolytes including Serum calcium and potassium levels.
3. Serum B12 levels

In case the above tests are normal further testing can be done including - nerve conduction studies, Electromyography, etc. These tests might help to diagnose any underlying neurological issues.

The treatment of most of the conditions is very easy and the condition will resolve on its own. In some cases, prescription medications like muscle relaxants might be needed to stop severe symptoms.

I hope this answers your query.
In case you have additional questions or doubts, you can forward them to me, and I shall be glad to help you out.
