Question: Hi,

My 7 month old Daughter is suffering from severe Cough (Khansi) since last 15 days. She is also doing vomiting almost 2 times a day since last 3 days. we consulted the pediatrician and he told that it is due to wheezing. He has recommended following two medicines:

1. Nasoclear - Nose drops
2. Asthalin - syrup

Doctor has also prescribed to give nebulizer if above medicines do not improve her health.

It is almost 3 days since we started medicines but her health is not getting better. She is also not getting continuous sleep due to this.

Should we give nebulizer to her? is it safe? Any other remedy if you can suggest?

Regards,

Brief Answer:
Nebulizer is safe and needs to be given

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

I have carefully gone through your query and understand your concerns. Most often cough in children is caused due to certain viral infections. Although it usually resolves in about a week, sometimes it may take longer as in the case of your daughter. Your description seems consistent with a condition called bronchiolitis which is caused due to a virus and is characterized by wheezing (wheezing is not the cause). In such a case Asthalin nebulization is more effective than Asthalin syrup. It requires a nebulizer device or can be administered at a hospital. It is safe and in fact the best thing to be given to her.

Since the condition has not resolved in the last 15 days, I would also insist on giving Omnacortil syrup (prescription medicine) once daily for the next few days. You may continue to give Nasoclear to clear nasal block, if any.

Let me know if I could help further.

Regards
