Suggest Remedy For Red And Dry Facial Skin After Using Toner

default
Posted on Fri, 13 Mar 2015
Question: Hi,

I have a question regarding a toner that listed alcohol denat as the second ingredient. Before I used this product I had very calm fair skin that was slightly oily. After using the product once, my skin is red, dry and small broken capillaries have appeared in my nose. Is it possible for an alcohol based toner to cause rosacea? Is it possible for this product to disturb the skin barrier and cause inflammation?

I have been suffering for a while now and look forward to a solution.

Thank you for your time!

Brief Answer:
It could be a trigger for both rosacea and an allergic response

Detailed Answer:
Hello and Welcome

I appreciate your concern

The exact cause of Rosacea is not known. However many correlations exist. Among these alcohol among other chemicals can certainly be a trigger. Other triggers include caffeine, spicy food , extreme temperatures etc. Rosacea is a clinical diagnosis and the rash is for the most part quite evident. An allergic response is much more common and should be treated for by stopping the current product that you are using and to start anti histamines like levocetirizine or desloratidine for a week.

Please consult your doctor before deciding on any further course of action.

wishing you best of health
