Question: My 1 year daughter consistently has high fever (103) even after administering Mefamic Acid (Meftal syrub) for over 3 hours. It's 4 am in morning, what to do? Right now we are trying to reduce her temperature with soaked water cloth.

Brief Answer:
You can give both paracetamol and mefenemic acid simultaneously

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Thanks for asking on this platform

You can give paracetamol with meftal. The dose of paracetamol is 15 mg/kg/dose and it can be given at an interval of 4 hours. If temperature persists you can give mefenemic acid at a dose of 8 mg/kg/dose at an interval of 8 hours. Paracetamol syrup contains 120 mg in 5 ml while meftal contains 100 mg in 5 ml.
Assuming weight of 10 kg the dose will be 5 ml each of paracetamol and mefenemic acid.Continue sponging. The best way of sponging is to soak a cotton cloth in normal(room temperature)water and then remove the excess of water by squeezing it.Then wipe off the whole body so that a thin film of water get formed and then let it evaporate.Repeat it till the temperature gets normal. You can keep wet cotton in axilla/groin and in neck region for better relief.

Get him evaluated by a physician to assess the condition and also to look into the cause of fever.

I hope this helps.
