Brief Answer:
Change antibiotic after 48-72 hours. Infection may be viral.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for your query.

1. Viral infections will not respond to antibiotics. Antibiotics will prevent secondary bacterial infection and shorten the duration of the sore throat. Even in bacterial or mixed infections, antibiotics take about 48-72 hours to give results. After this, the antibiotics should be changed.

2. Supportive treatment such as control of pain, fever, allergic symptoms, adequate rest, hydration are equally important.

3. Routine blood tests, a throat swab and regular follow-up examination are recommended.

I hope that I have answered your query. If you have any more questions I will be available to answer them.

Regards.

Brief Answer:
Let your doctor decide the best antibiotic.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for writing back.

1. A combination of amoxicillin and clavulanate (such as Augmentin) 625 mg twice a day for 5-7 days will be ideal.

2. You should take these medications only under the strict supervision of your physician.

3. Knowledge about sensitivity to an antibiotic and about the potential side effects of these medications will be known to your doctor.

I hope that I have answered your query. If you have any more questions I will be available to answer them.

Regards.

Brief Answer:
There is no cause for worry. Follow up with a local doctor.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for writing back.

1. Yes, it is common to have fever and cough with a flowing nose.

2. Your fever is responding to the paracetamol, which is fine.

3. Better nutrition and health (fitness) helps avoid frequent infections. However viral infections are bound to occur once in a while as the viruses mutate (due to which immunity cannot be absolute).

Wishing you a speedy recovery,

Regards.
