Question: hi. my family has been living in the same house for the last 22 years. my father passed away 3.5 years back.
Me, my mom, my wife and my son, we all shifted to a new bigger house a few days back.
Since the time we have shifted my mother is feeling very nervous, she feels very nostalgic, feels like her head will burst. she gets the same thoughts again and again about the house that we have left. the life that she has spent in that house. she is not able to sleep at nite and feels very panic at night.
please suggest some medecine from which she gets very relaxed and these thoughts dissappear.
thanks

Brief Answer:
Simple precautions advised

Detailed Answer:
Hello Mr. XXXX thanks for trusting health care magic.
I understand her feelings and the phase of life that she is going through.
It is a common feeling and can be easily managed by taking simple steps like -
- keep some old belongings in her room like almirah, chest or chairs
- make your son sleep with her for some days
- ask her to avoid drinking water after 7 pm so that she has lesser episodes of peeing at night
- give her tablet chlordiazepoxide twice a day for 10-15 days, it is a mild anxiolytic and thus will help in releasing the anxiety and thus calm her down
You can also take her for a small holiday of 3-5 days if possible so that she sleeps in hotel rooms so accepts the change in broader way.
Try these simple measures and see the effect otherwise she will need counselling sessions with a good psychiatrist.
All the best.

Brief Answer:
Treatment advised

Detailed Answer:
If she is depressed a lot then give her tablet sertaline 25 mg twice a day for 10 days, if symptoms improve then once a day at night time for another 10 days and then stop it.
After stopping it start on chlordiazepoxide and give it for another 10-15 days.
I hope she will respond very well.
Take care

so i should not give her chlordiazepoxide along with sertaline? and what mg of chlordiazepoxide?
doctor
Answered by Dr. Manisha Jain (10 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
Not together

Detailed Answer:
No need to give chlordiazepoxide till sertaline is there and once you stop sertaline then start Chlordiazepoxide 10 mg daily.
Basically it is a method of slow weaning of drug where sertaline will relieve her of the symptoms instantly and then slowly weaned off and then switching to a milder drug and then stopping all of them.

Brief Answer:
Omit morning dose

Detailed Answer:
If she is getting these symptoms then omit the morning dose and just give her the night time pill.
It is a good sign as it means that she needs a very low dose of this drug and thus will be fine soon.
Give her this at night time only for 7 days more and then switch to Chlordiazepoxide at night time.
Wish her best of health.
