Brief Answer:
Due to inflammation.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
The symptoms that you have even after a meniscus repair are likely to be due to degenerative changes in the knee joint causing a persistent inflammation. The swelling at the back of the knee can be due to an inflamed bursa. This needs an MRI scan for a proper diagnosis.
Till then you can avoid any strenuous knee exercises, do a hot compress, take a mild pain killer and use an elastic knee brace.
I hope this answers your query.
In case you have additional questions or doubts, you can forward them to me, and I shall be glad to help you out.

Brief Answer:
Not likely to cause a permanent damage.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
The long wait fro the surgery could have caused pain and other symptoms till July. It is not likely to have a lasting effect on your ligaments, etc causing a persistent pain.
Hope my answer is helpful.
