Suggest Remedy For Pain After Having Twisted The Ankles

default
Posted on Mon, 11 May 2015
Question: HI, I twisted my ankle about one month ago, and than two weeks later dropped a garden clipper on it! It hurt immediately both times but no bruises, but hurt especially when I walked. 9 days ago bruising started to come out over large area, and swelling. Went to doctor on Thursday and had xray. "soft tissue injury, nothing broken" was diagnosis. Today, it was hurting, as usual, and I was aware of the pain being higher up the ankle than usual. Got in shower and discovered big lump higher up than where I had the bruising etc. about 1" above ankle bone but more to center. Just a little concerned.

Brief Answer:
You need splinting of the ankle

Detailed Answer:
Hello ,
thanks for using healthcare magic. I have studied your case. Swelling above ankle is most probably collection of blood under skin due to injury. It is called hematoma. Usually it disappears within three to four weeks as blood get absorbed.
I would suggest you following.
1.I think you should have splinted this ankle with walking plaster. It will help in healing and you can able to do all your work.
2.Some time these blood filled lumps can get infected. So you need to take antibiotcs after discussing with your doctor. Prevention is always better than cure.
3.Avoid standing for long time. Rest is best medicine.
4.Keep your foot and ankle elevated over pillow when you are sleeping.
5. Once your splint is removed in a week or so, start hot water fomentation.
I hope these steps will be helpful for you.Let me know if there is any other followup questions.
thanks
