Posted on Mon, 15 Feb 2016
Question: My son had fever 102 last Friday along with acute stomach pain. Fever reduced with the help of ibujesic+ and mephtal P in 2 days. Doctor also advised to start ofloxin which we are still continuing. for the first 3 days he had vomatting almost twice a day which is stopped now. No loose motion. But his stomach pain is still there and intermittent. Severity is reduced since day 1 but not gone. The same episode was reported once month back but that time after starting with ofloxin he was okay. His stomch pan problem is recurrent last 2 years with the gap of 4 to 6 months. Doctor advised us to perform sonography and blood test. blood test report is attached. His slpeen size is 10.4 . Doctor has suggested endoscopy and colonoscopy next. Need your advise.

Brief Answer:
Check for urinary tract infection

Detailed Answer:
Hi

I understand your concerns but don't worry. I have gone through your question and understand your concerns but don't worry. The reports are fine. There seems to be some mild infection or inflammation going on which has lead to the episodes of fever, vomiting and stomach pain in your child. Spleen size is perfectly fine for his age.

The likely reason can be urinary tract infection or gastroenteritis episode which are quite common in this age and lead to such presentation. So, I would recommend you to go for a urine and stool routine and microscopic examination along with urine culture. I do not find any indication of endoscopy and colonoscopy at present. So, discuss it thoroughly with your doctor.

You may upload his urine and stool reports and your doctor's reason for scopies for my review so that I may advice you the best possible management plan.

Hopefully it will be of help.
Take care

we have done the stool test but report is going to take time. once they are available I will upload. XXXXXXX doctor suggested us not to do the scopy but do the tests for celiac disease tests. we have done that. report will be with us by Tuesday. I will upload both reports. arr then any prominent symptoms celiac disease may have? I can see if my son has those apart from stomach pain.

Brief Answer:
Unlikely due to celiac disease

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Do not worry. Celiac disease occurs due to gut allergy to wheat, rye and barley. Kids suffering from celiac have poor weight gain, recurrent diarrhoea, bloating, gas (flatulence, farting), anemia, fatigue, etc. The symptoms are very unlikely due to celiac disease.

You may upload his reports for my review as soon as they come.
Take care
