default
Posted on Fri, 20 Mar 2015
Question: Hi,

I recently did a urea breath test and tested negative for H. Pylori. At times I get heartburn and the foods I eat are as bland as it gets. All I drink is water. Is it possible I have an ulcer?

Brief Answer:
Likely to be due to gastroesophageal reflux

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome to Healthcare-Magic
Greetings of the day

Dear Sir,

The cause of your symptoms is likely to be due to Gastroesophageal reflux. Whether there is underling ulcer can only be attributed after Endoscopy examination.

Following could be predisposing factors

1. Irregular diet and bland diet

2. Stress

3. lack of adequate sleep

As you are already taking Pantoprozole which is acid suppressant , your symptoms are likely to improve with it. i would also suggest the following

1. Small quantity of meals consumed frequently will help prevent reflux

2. Addition of gastric motility increasing drug like Domperidone will be helpful.

3. Adequate sleep: 6-8 hours of uninterrupted sleep will destress you.

If the symptoms persist then further evaluation by Endoscopy will be required.
Take care
