Detailed Answer:
Hi dear and thanks for your query.

During the time you have vaginal bleeding :
Did you have abdominal cramps or pain?
Did you have body temperature?
Did vaginal bleeding was with smell odor?
Do you breastfeed?
The first thing you should do is to make a transvaginal scan, because isn't normal to have vaginal bleeding so long.

During this time try to take much more liquids and iron rich foods.

I have mild cramping and bad pain in my lower back no I am not breastfeeding and the blood is not smelly. The blood reminds me of new born baby's first pooh it's of a thickish consistency and really dark in colour like black

Brief Answer:
You should do a detailed gynecologic examination and TVS

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear again.

Having five weeks with vaginal bleeding and mild cramping and bad pain in your lower back isn't normal.

The most common causes of late postpartum vaginal bleeding are:
uterus that doesn't contract normally, possibly as a result of fragments of the placenta or the amniotic sac that remain in the uterus after birth, an infection or both.

An ultrasound and pelvic exam will be done to see if any placental tissue remains in your uterus and/ or any infection is there .

If there's tissue, your caregiver may need to do a surgical procedure called a dilation and curettage (D&C) to remove. Hence make an ultrasound and pelvic exam. If both of them will be normal ,a hormonal imbalances can be the reason of vaginal bleeding.
