Suggest Remedy For Diarrhea And Vomiting After Taking Antibiotics

Posted on Thu, 30 Jun 2016
Question: Hi. So back in March I was told I had chlamydia and got 1000mg of azithromycin. My partner was also treated. I got severely sick 48 hours after taking the antibiotic (throwing up, diarrhea) after the illness and waiting a month, I was still having burning while urinating. Went and got tested again 5 weeks later. I tested positive again and never even had sex those 5 weeks. My gyno gave me azithromycin again and I asked her what if this doesn't work. She said she has never experienced that happening and it should work. At this point I was worried and went to public health to get a full work up to make sure I had no other std. When I got the results back it said I was negative for everything (even chlamydia). Which confused me because I did these tests the same day that I got the results from the gyno. Both urine tests. I still took the antibiotic just in case. Now I am still having burning while urinating, itching and sometimes painful intercourse. Always using protection. Could I have PID? I'm very worried and can't go to the gyno because currently left my Job and have no insurance. Please help

Brief Answer:
It does not seem to be PID

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to Healthcare Magic. I am Dr Ramadevi Wani. I will be answering your concerns today.

I read your notes carefully.
Since you have received treatment for chlamydia twice it is unlikely that the present urinary and vaginal symptoms are due to Chlamydia. Azithromycin is very effective in the treatment of Chlamydia. Since you are using protection during sex it is unlikely to be a new chlamydial infection.

The current symptoms could be due to non STD urinary and vaginal infection. It does not seem like PID.
I suggest that it is better to consult Gynecologist and get internal examination done and get a urine and vaginal swab culture sensitivity test done for other infections. I hope this is helpful.

If you have further queries, do write to me. I will be happy to answer.

Best wishes,
Dr Ramadevi Wani
