Suggest Remedy For UTI When Trying To Conceive?

default
Posted on Wed, 29 Apr 2015
Question: I normally have cycles of 32/33 days.
This month I started Trying To Conceive and got UTI in follicular phase (Last AF till ovulation).
so took antibiotics (nitrofurantoin) for same.
and I ovulated on cycle day 26 and got AF on cd 40.
So i was just wondering that whether my cycle length has been increased to 40 or it was just because I got UTI and took antibiotics for it.
I want to pinpoint my Ovulation date so should i consider 32 days cycle now or 40 days cycle ?

And if UTI was not the reason then why my Cycle length increased to 40 ??

Brief Answer:
Consider 32 days as that is your normal pattern.

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX
Thanks for writing to us with your health concern.
HOw do you know that you ovulated on cycle day 25 ?
The ovulation date is not predictable at all , in irregular cycles.
You cycle might have been lengthened due to stress, infection, antibiotics etc.
Did you take any medications to help you conceive ?
I think you should not calculate ovulation considering 32 day cycle, as that is your routine pattern.
Also, I am interested in knowing how are you pinpoint ovulation ?
Also, since how long are you trying to conceive ?
All the best

I got positive OPK on Cycle day 25 and also my Luteal plase is 14 days.
I'm predicting that i ovulated on 23 March and on 6th april i got my periods i.e 14 days after 23rd March.

Anyways i'm not bothered Much about Ovulation. My main concern is my periods got delayed and i'm suspecting that because of late ovulation it got delayed.
so, if reason is late ovulation then what caused Late ovulation. Can UTI or antibiotics for UTI cause Late ovulation ??

and if we forget about ovulation and all, still why i got late periods, can i blame UTI or antibiotics for same.
Also, my last cycle was of 40 days, whereas i normally get 32 days cycle. so now my next cycle will be of 32 days or 40 days.
I know one can't predict the cycle length but what do you think 32 days cycle or 40 days cycle ?

Brief Answer:
As below.

Detailed Answer:
See late ovulation or late periods, both are essentially the same.
Mainly your follicular phase gets prolonged.
As I said, it can be due to - stress, antibiotics, infection, hormonal medications, weight changes, unusual exercise, late nights, erratic eating habits etc.
As I said, since you usually have a 32 day cycle, you should take that as your normal pattern for the next month too.
OPK are not very reliable , you have to always take them with a pinch of salt.

Thanks for your reply.
So i'll consider 32 days for my next cycle.
Just to brief you about myself, i'm 27 years old and weigh 50 kg. regular with periods (32 days). just this time i got late periods ans this was my first cycle when i tried to conceive.
I have some more questions :
1) I have heard that 40 days cycle are abnormal and one can face difficulty in conceiving with 40 days cycle. Is this true ?
2) For ovulation to be delayed, stress plays a key role. So, if someone says Stress then it includes Infection also (UTI) ?
3) Can we increase our chances of conceiving by having daily sex or every other day sex ?

Brief Answer:
As below

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for the appreciation.
I listed a number of reasons why your period could have been delayed this time.
It is only once in a while, so you can ignore it, and avoid stress about it, unless it becomes a pattern.
See, a normal menstrual pattern is accepted as being between 22 days to upto 45 days.
If a woman has always had 40 day cycles, there is no reason for that to affect her fertility.
But for somebody who has not had such a pattern, and suddenly notices delayed cycles, that could indicate hormonal imbalance or an underlying problem such as PCOS - polycystic ovarian syndrome - that might impact conception.
So just maintain a menstrual diary and keep me posted - let us see how the pattern evolves, and then accordingly I may suggest investigations / treatment.
Infection is a kind of stress on the body, and the mind too sometimes. So yes, infections / surgery is included in types of stress.
See, you are unsure about the cycle length.
Ovulation will definitely not occur in the first 10 days of your cycle.
It will occur after that.
As a rule of thumb you can remain sexually active every alternate day starting from day 10 of your cycle for the next 2 weeks or so ( unless you have very long cycles exceeding 40 days ).
I hope I cleared some of your doubts.
