Brief Answer:
I would like to know little detail of this illness
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I have studied your case. I think your wife is having ecchymosis of the leg. This is due to collection of blood in subcutaneous tissue and this causes black and blue shades. Before I advised you any further I would like to know little detail of her illness.
1.Do you have x rays of her leg, if yes please share.
2.Did you visited any doctor till now or not?
3.Is she able to mover her toes and have sensation in toes?
Please send me answers of these questions. I will try my best to help you.
thanks

Brief Answer:
Coumaden can be cause of swelling
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for replying. Swelling is common in fractures and it take some time in swelling to decrease. It can take months for swelling to subside completely. As she is taking coumaden which is a anticoagulant so it can also cause swelling. I have following suggestions for you.
1.Keep her leg elevated on pillow.
2.it is better to get her coagulation profile. There can be need to change doses of coumaden. It can be checked by INR ratio.
3.Compression bandage around leg will help. Also stop ice and use hot water fomentation. Ice is useful in first 24 to 48 hours only.
4. Tablet Chymorol forte can be given for swelling.
I hope this answer will be useful for you.Let me know if there is any other followup questions.
thanks
