Question: I am experiencing forgetfulness. It seems to be getting worse. Today I had an appointment @ 12:45. I was watching the clock so that I would be on time. I thought I was leaving @ 11:45, but when I got in my car it was already 12:45. Also, someone asked me where my daughter was attending college...I could not remember the name of her school. This has me so worried, I'm afraid I am in the early stages of Alzheimer's. Could you advise me about what my next step should be?

Brief Answer:
Higher mental functions examination.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Thanks for being on healthcaremagic.com.
I am Dr.Ajay Panwar,a neurologist,here to answer your query.

I understand your concerns about memory loss.
Though, straightforward answer to your query is that you should visit a neurologist in person, and get your higher mental functions evaluated as detailed higher mental examination may help to detect subtle abnormalities,if any.

Depending on the examination, you may have to undergo neuroimaging studies.

However, please tell a few details,so that I can have a better idea of your problem-
1)Since when are you having these complaints?
2)What all you forget-out of names, places, your old memories, way to market or way to home or known places, the person whom you met yesterday or few hours back or the event in which you participated sometime back, whether you ate food a few hours back or not?
3)Any behavioural change?
4)Do you have any difficulty in managing your finances or doing calculations?

I shall be glad to have you in follow-up with details, for further queries.

Regards
Dr.Ajay Panwar,
