Suggest Remedies For Infection On The Hand Caused By Granuloma Annulare

Question: Hi, I developed a bizarre raised, for lack of better words, infection on my hand after being bitten by something in August of this year. It has continued to change and has a somewhat raised ring area. My doctor first said it was a reaction to the bites, then he gave me an anti-fungal with a steroid cream which made it get worse. I have a dermatologist appointment in early March but I am freaking out. Could I have hookworm infestation? I live in Northwest Indiana and am a relatively healthy 55 year old woman

I have gone through your complaints and I don't think it is hookworm infection as it doesn't lead to ring shaped lesions.

I would recommend you to upload the photographs of the rash so that I can have a clearer picture of the condition and can guide you in a better way.

I attached two pictures of my weird lesion. Again it started out as 2 bug bite, very close together. I wasn't the only one bitten that night. My partner had similar bites on his legs. His healed. Mine have progressed to this. The antifungal makes it worse and so did the steroid cream or one or the other inflamed it.

I have reviewed the attached photographs and it seems to be granuloma annulare which is a granulomatous disease of the skin.
Although its exact cause is unclear but it has been seen to be triggered by insect bites.
Although there are many treatment options available for it but efficacy of these vary from individual to individual.
Potent topical steroids, intralesional steroids, cryosurgery are some of the options which are used for treating it.
