Question: I am concerned about blood pressure , when I take a my blood pressure it reads the top number is 150 or 160 and the bottom number reads 65 to 75 , what does that mean,, thank you XXXX

You are concerned about your blood pressure being elevated. You have hypertension. Your systolic numbers are higher than they should be. Our goal for blood pressure is to have the top number not be above 140. I would recommend at this time lifestyle modifications. Start a low fat sodium and low fat diet, exercise regularly and if you are overweight loss the extra weight. If these measures do not help then I would recommend you be started on blood pressure medications. I would recommend doing the lifestyle modifications for at least 1 month and see if you top numbers go down.
