Since you have not mentioned about discharge, white patches on vagina, autoimmune disease, most likely cause for vaginal dryness in your case is low estrogen levels in the body which usually occurs around this age.

Estrogen is necessary to keep vaginal cells healthy and to lubricate the vagina. With low estrogen levels vagina becomes dry and that itself initiates itching too.
Please consult gynecologist for internal examination to make sure there is no vaginal infection. Use this occasion to get a pap smear done if it is due.

Once estrogen deficiency is confirmed, your doctor will prescribe estrogen cream for local application. It is safe as only a small part of it is absorbed into the blood stream. You may also be prescribed vaginal lubricants.

Avoid douching as this causes vaginal dryness. Avoid using scented soaps, lotions, perfumes etc. Use cotton undergarments.
