Brief Answer:
fever and chest congestion?

Detailed Answer:
Hello and Welcome

I appreciate your concern

Based on your history and the season that is prevailing, it can be a viral infection. Tylenol (Acetaminophen) or Paracetamol can be taken every 6 hours for the fever. For the chest congestion cough syrup including promethazine with carbocysteine combination can be taken over the counter. Steam inhalation with menthol should also help.

If the fever persists or worsens in 48 hours, in addition to physical exam, CBC, Chest X ray and ESR/CRP should be done to look for a raised TLC, any shadows or consolidation suggesting pneumonia on x ray and raised ESR/CRP to look for evidence of inflammatory process.

The decision to give antibiotics, beta 2 agonists and steroids would depend upon the clinical findings and investigations.

The combination of clarithromycin or azithromycin with quinolones should be avoided as both can lead to serious arrhythmia by prolonging the QT interval.

Wishing you best of health

Thanks
