Question: Hx of kidney stone, stent placed in 2013
Currently experiencing Rt back pain radiating to front, (ascending bowel area)
No temp
Urining OK
Feeling of bloatness
What test would you recommend to rule out gallbladder or bowel involvement?

Pain feels like its kidney related, (flank pain, etc), would like to rule out hydro-nephrosis....

Which test do you recommend, (CT or MRI) to see if any stones, (kidney or gallbladder), hydro-nephrosis, and or any bowel concerns, (CA).

Hx of CA in family: Pancreatic on Mom's side; lung on Father's side

Brief Answer:
Ultrasound, x-ray and colonoscopy should be enough.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Thank you for the query.

To rule out hydronephrosis, kidney stones and gallstones, abdominal ultrasound is enough. Kidney ad gallbladder are greatly visible in ultrasound, so in most cases, no need to do CT or MRI. Moreover ultrasound is much safer than CT. And some stones are invisible in CT.
If its about bowels, abdominal X-ray to rule out obstruction (it can also reveal stones) and colonoscopy to rule out any tumor are good enough. CT can sometimes miss colon tumor.

Hope this will help. Feel free to ask further questions.
Regards.
