Posted on Thu, 3 Nov 2016
Question: What is a home remedy for tinea veriscolor? I have just been started on Rosuvastatin, and anti fungal meds such as fluconasole, itraconazole, ketoconazole (which I have been taking) is contraindicated?

Thanks

Brief Answer:
no effects with topical ketoconazole, selsum blue, tea tree and aloe used

Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

There is a risk of interaction between ORAL ketoconazole and rouvastatin, they should never be used together but this interaction has not been shown with the cream version of the ketoconazole.

There is also no significant interaction between either fluconazole or itraconazole and rouvastatin so either of these can be used with your cholesterol medication.

If you are still not comfortable with any of these, then you can consider selenium sulfide (selsun blue), it can help with fungal infections. It would have to be applied daily for at least 2 weeks.
It would need to remain on the skin for at least 10 mins before being removed.
In resistant cases, it may need to be applied overnight.

Aloe vera and tea tree oil are sometimes used at home as well to treat tinea versicolor.
Both would also need to be used for at least 2 weeks as well for a response
