Suggest Dosage For Coreg
Question: I have been on 100mg Losartin/12.5mg HCTZ for 6 days & BP avg 150/85. PCP said I could add my previous 12.5 Coreg to it if Losartin/HCTZ combo fails to do the trick. PCP is out of town rest of the year. Question: should I take the 12.5 Coreg once or twice daily with the once daily Losartin/HCTZ? My HR is between 65-75.

I would recommend to divide the 12.5 mg carvedilol into to doses during a day, one half taken in the morning and the other in the evening. As your primary care physician, I also think that this addition will control you blood pressure. Even if you do not see clear-cut results within the first week, there is nothing to worry about. The anti-hypertensive drugs mainly act on a plateau basis, so it can take some days after they reach this level in circulation. As for the heart rate, you do not have nothing to worry about. Normal heart rate is 60-100 beats per minute, and it is also normal for physically or formerly-physically active people to have low heart rate. Therefore, a heart rate down to 50 beats per minute is accepted as normal. Let me add that the three compounds that you are on to treat your high blood pressure do not have significant effect on the heart rate.
