Posted on Mon, 29 Dec 2014
Question: I have a healthy sex life with my partner, but I'm wondering is there's any other better birth control method I can use other than taking birth control pills like Escapelle and Postinor2 or condom?
What method you suggest that has the highest chance in preventing unwanted pregnancy?

Brief Answer:
Use intrauterine devices

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for writing..
I understand your concern..

I suggest intrauterine devices like CuT or hormone containing IUD.. The failure rate is 0.3%.. You have to feel for the thread to ensure the correct position of intrauterine devices..

The main side effect associated with it is increased bleeding during periods and mild cramping during first few menstrual cycle. This will get to normal in few months..

Hope I have answered your query.. Feel free to ask any doubts.. Good day..

Brief Answer:
Need gynecologist assistance for IUD

Detailed Answer:
Hello Dear,
Intra uterine device should be inserted by vaginal route by a gynecologist or your treating doctor under aseptic precautions; hence you need to visit a doctor.

Postinor 2 and escapelle contains high amount of levonogesterol which is used as an Emergency contraceptive pill.

If you take pill within 24 hours chances of failure rate will be 1-5%, if you take after 24 hours failure rate will increase to 25-45%

Emergency contraceptive pill should not use as regular contraceptive pills.

If you have any queries I will be happy to help you.

I think I won't be able to use the IUD method. However, how will the emergency contraceptive pills harm my body? and what regular pills you suggest that I can get at pharmacy? What's the failure rate if compare both type of pills?

Brief Answer:
Low dose estrogen, progesterone tablet can be taken

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for writing...

Emergency contraceptive pill is used only after unprotected intercourse. Repeated use is not advisable due to side effects like menstrual irregularity... Regular use can cause weight gain and associated problems...

You can use low dose estrogen progesterone tablet which is available as oral contraceptive pill.. It is available in various trade names in the market... It is a 21 day packet taken from first day of the period for 21 days at the same time everyday... You can discuss about this with your doctor.

Hope i have answered your query... Good day...

Brief Answer:
Yes,Take it from day 1 of the periods

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for writing...

Take the forgotten pill as soon as you remember and continue that day's pill as normal... If more than 2 pill is forgotten failure rate will be high and alternate contraceptive measure can be taken...

It should be taken from 1st day of the periods. It also regularize period...

You can use hormonal implants which release hormone in small amount into the body. So no problem of forgotten pill...

Hope I have answered your query... good day...
