default
Posted on Tue, 24 Jan 2017
Question: I am a sufferer of IBS for sometime now. I cannot tolerate spicy food. Recently I got piles. On the advise of a ayurvedic doctor I took Chiruvilwadi kashyam. The piles got cured very soon and I am completely recovered.
To my XXXXXXX I noticed my IBS symptoms improved considerably.
I want to know if Chiruvilwadi helps with IBS. Also want to know if there are any side effects with Chiruvilwadi, I recently had Urinary track infection with mild blood after taking this medicine, Are there any side effects.
How long do I need to take this medicine. I have taken it for 2 iterations of 7 days.

Dear
Thanks for contacting Ayurveda with your health query and after reviewing your history I'm of the following opinion:

1. The said medicine is mainly indicated for piles, fistula and gulma [gaseous tumor] problem either in decoction or tablet form

2. Although there are no significant side effects reported with the drug but in some cases may cause gastritis and high blood pressure

3. In Ayurveda we hold that three disease(s):
i. arsha [piles]
ii. atisar [diarrhea]
iii. grahani [IBS] are caused due to weak/low digestive power and improves after the digestion is/become strong and since the said kshayam improves the agni [digestion/ metabolism] of the body thus explains its role in curing all the three disease [including IBS]

4. It can be taken upto 3 months will gradual reduce in the dosage [after consulting your attending physician], and for hematuria [blood in urine] kindly consult a qualified Urologist/Ayurveda Practitioner near your locality.

5. your report shows high risk for heart disease [high lipid profile and hsCRP along with slightly reduced GFR] so kindly consult an Urologist/Cardiologist regarding the same since later one may call it as side/adverse effect of the drug]

Thanks Doctor for your response.
Unfortunately 1 week before the test I took Chiruvilwadi khasayam.
Also one more factor noticed high was amylase.
Since the values are high after I took this medicine I am very concerned of the side effects.

Could you please confirm if the composition in the medicine is safe? Are tthere any known side effects with this drug ?

I consulted a urologist for blood in urine in this forum and he confirmed it is due to the Urinary track infection and since it is a remote occurance it should be ok.
Also checked with the gastroentrologist since there are no other symptoms the amylase, it is ok.

Regarding the dosage I was taking currently taking 15 ml + 30 ml water twice before food. Can I continue the same dosage ?

Dear
Thanks for reverting back.

1. It could be other way that the values were on the high side prior to taking the drug and were found co incidently on investigation, since I don't have any known/written side effect till date.

2. If one is so concerned with the medicine my advice for you will be to stop taking the medicine and start with:

1. Capsule Immuno plus which regulates GI function
2. Capsule Phyt stress which improves the level of stress tolerance (as IBS is a psycho somatic disorder)

PS. I am prescribing/couriering the said medicine with positive results in IBS, if interested I can courier you the same

3. I have looked into the ingredients of the medicine and found nothing which can increase the blood values.

Also I have taken it close to 20 days. How many more days do you recommend ?

Brief Answer:
recommended dosage

Detailed Answer:
Dear
Thanks for reverting back

1. If you are taking it with water then I suppose the kashayam is concentrated otherwise one has to take 5-10 before food/empty stomach [thrice the dose of water], you may continue with the same

2. The dose ranges from 3 months to 2 years [since it acts as a RASAYANA], so it is up to the prescribing Doctor, and I usually give it for 3 months then give a break then again repeat [with reduce dosage]
