Suggest Alternate Over The Counter Medication For Rantac

Question: Hello Sir,
My kid was of 3 months old when doctor suggested me to give him Rantac syrup. But the medical shop handed my Rantac MPS suspension, which we gave him for 2 months.

Did we make a BLUNDER, will he have severe problems in future?

Will he be normal?

I can understand your concern as Rantac is a commonly prescribed medication in infants while Rantac MPS syrup is rarely used in this age.

Rantac MPS directly neutralizes the acid and Rantac decreases acid production.
Rantac MPS contains Malgradate, Simethicon and oxetacaine. The malgradate is a compound which contains magnesium and with prolong use can cause loose stool.There are no other significant side effects.

Simethicon and oxetacaine are difficult to break and do not get absorbed in intestine.
So overall if we see the side effects are very few like diarrhea.
So I request you to stop the medication and there is nothing to worry much.
