Hi,

Thanks for the query.

Apart from the hoarseness, do you have pain on swallowing, eating etc?
Have you taken any treatment in 8 weeks?
Do you smoke, have any addictions etc?
Have you done any tests?

I wish to have these details to able to help you.

Awaiting your response.

No pain,no swelling,no fever. No tests were done so far.Do not smoke or use any drugs of addiction. I feel normal except that my voice has changed. Do not see any swelling of my tonsils.

Hi

Good that you do not have any risk factors for bigger conditions.

Well, chronic laryngitis has many causes. This basically presents as hoarsness of voice. Most commonly its associated with flu, tonsillitis, cold etc. However, from your history I believe thats not the case.

Next step is a indirect laryngoscopy. You should see a ENT surgeon to have some tests done called laryngoscopy. This will entail a direct visualisation of of the vocal cords. This should be done to rule out pathology in the voice box that may be causing your symptoms.

Pathology to be ruled out is vocal cord polyp, cyst, growth.Other possible causes are inhalation of toxic fumes, smoke, allergic reactions, infections, muscular disorders, neurologic causes etc.

I would suggest that you see an ENT to get a better idea of what the cause might be.Some related blood tests/throat swab tests might need to be done to rule out some causes according to your doctor's advice.

I am a Science Teacher in a High School and one observation I made was the reduction in symptoms after the school closing and also with salt water gargle.Do you think I need to give some rest to my larynx to help recover?

Yes,rest is absolutely essential. If you are a teacher then on if the most possible cause happens to be voice abuse. This happens often to singers, teachers etc esp since they have to talk for long periods of time.
You do need to rest your voice and carry on with the salt water gargle.
But i also think that an ENT opinion regarding the rest should be taken also.Just to rule out pathology.
