Should I Continue Amlodipine Daily Despite Having Normal BP?

Question: Hello: The primary med that I'm using now is Amlodipine. It has proven itself to be quite effective. Why is it considered to be essential that Amlodipine be taken on a daily basis? I check my BP every day, and on most days it is in the "good range." I am also taking other meds (by recommendation) such as Vitamin D, and Magnesium Citrate on a daily basis.

Dear Friend.
Welcome to HCM. I am Dr Anshul Varshney. I understand your concern.
It is essential to take Anti Hypertensive medicine on regular basis because the BP control that you are getting is because of regular use of Amlodipine. If you stop taking it your BP might rise again.
As such Amlodipine has no effect on betterment of your heart. That only helps in achieving BP control.
As far as other supplements are concerned you can take Vitamin D supplement but Magnesium supplement is not required on daily basis.
Do daily exercise and take low salt and low fat diet.
