Should Plavix Be Stopped Before Taking A Trigger Point Injection For Back Pain?

Question: My mother is 92. She takes plavix for afib heart issues. She has some trigger point injections in low back scheduled in 5 days from chronic pain doctor. Does she have to stop plavix for any period of time before getting the trigger point injections in back... ( this is not epidural injection) ....

Plavix is a blood thinner and can cause an excessive bleeding in any procedure that leads to bleeding. The trigger point injections in the back does not cause any major bleeding. it can cause only one or two drops of blood to come out.
There is no need to skip any dose of Plavix and you need to inform the doctor about the medicine she is taking so that proper precautions can be taken.
