Pregnant. Noticed Brown Spotting. Normal At This Stage?

default
Posted on Fri, 7 Jun 2013
Question: Hi, I am roughly five weeks pregnant about cycle day 39. Last night I had some spotting that was brownish in color with some pink blood once in awhile. Not a lot of blood either with no cramping. Doctor did an ultra sound today and there is a sac but we couldn't see anything...is that really common at this early?? She doesn't seem worried because of the amount, color, and no cramping. I got my HCg levels checked via blood today and progesterone checked also. should I be concerned yet with no baby seen in sac and the bleeding? I don't think I saw tissue when I went to the bathroom either...REALLY anxious! My first pregnancy and had to take clomid to get pregnant.

Hi XXXXXXX
Its very early in your pregnancy at present to actually get a significant ultrasound finding. At 5 weeks, not much can be seen apart from the gest sac. Bleeding in early pregnancy is very common. But since you didnt pass clot,or have cramping its a goos sign. I agree with your doctor. The best you can do now is wait and watch. You beta hcg levels should be checked after 48 hrs also to note whether its rising adeqautely. At present, just take rest as much as possible. No sex for the time being. You can take some added progestrone for supplementation if your doctor advises you.Any sign of bleeding with clot, pain, cramping etc go to the ER and repeat the ultrasound.

would the clot have looked like a regular period type of clot?? The worst I saw was some discharge in the toilet that looked mucus like but didn't look like a big clot...

Yes it would look like heavy clots during period. Mild spotting is common by anything heavier like a period,or requiring a pad needs attention.

Okay, so never (to my knowledge) saw any clotting. I will just now keep positive! Thanks so much for your help. Oh and what does it mean when she said the sac had good definition?

Irregular sac isnt a good sign and sometimes ends up in a miscarriage. If you have good definition, then its a good sign. Be positive.
