My Girlfriend Takes Birth Control Pills, She Gets Her Period

default
Posted on Fri, 10 Jan 2020
Question: My girlfriend takes Birth Control Pills, she gets her period around the same time every month and usually her period last 3 days. In early November we had intercourse and around that time she also took laxatives because we had a family gather and we ate a lot and her tummy wasn't feeling well. Her period later that month was different than the typical one. Her bleeding was a lot lighter and her cramps were more severe than usual, that lasted 3 days as usual. About 1 week after her period she started feeling light cramping, had white discharge, and she mentioned she just felt off, she then soon after started feeling discomfort on her chest and the discharge continued and she mentioned the cramping wouldn't stop. Fast forward to now, she's been anxious about the situation, she felt like she wasn't going to get her period but it came but its a day late and she mentioned its just spotting currently. She believes she is pregnant but she is also very unsure of what she is feeling, she has always been very scared of getting pregnant and has dealt with depression and Im not sure if she's overthinking taking the laxatives and she is physiologically creating some of these symptoms. She said she doesn't want to deal with it anymore, she see's bleeding so its whatever. What is happening, is she pregnant? Did taking the laxatives maybe create an irregular period?

Brief Answer:
Preganncy not likely if she is taking pills regularly.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
Taking laxatives does not affect the hormonal balance or the periods. If she is taking the birth control pills regularly without missing any pill then a preganncy is not liekly. The light bleeding that she is having can be due to stress and anxiety. To further rule out the preganncy she can test her urine for preganncy using a pregnancy kits easily available over the counter. The cramps and white discharge can be related to some infection that can be treated after consulting a gynecologist.
