Missing Period And Getting White Discharge. Any Chances Of Pregnancy From Precum Outside Vagina?

default
Posted on Mon, 25 Feb 2013
Question: Hi Mia,

I am a 23 year old virgin. My period was on the 6th of November, 4th of December and 3rd of January. On the 23rd of January me and my boyfriend had dry contact (no vaginal intercourse, penis was no where near the vagina at all times; it was merely dry contact from behind on the buttocks). His ejaculation came on my back and a few drops may have dropped down onto my underwear as I stood up (went to clean myself in the bathroom).

Today is the 7th of February and still no period. You should know I have been *very* stressed in January due to a new job and even my last two periods were further apart than usual. Also, I have seen some white discharge from my vagina in the past two days.

Can you tell me if I am pregnant or if i should wait a bit longer? I am in a country that may penalize me for being pregnant out of wedlock so I can't check the doctor just yet. I think its just the stress but now I am even more stressed! please help!

Hello,

Thanks for writing to us. I am happy to help you.

Pregnancy is possible only, if unprotected sexual intercourse is done with ejaculation around ovulation time in regular period.

In above procedure of sexual activity on safe period (23rd January), chance of pregnancy is almost nil. So you need not to be much worried and you can wait few more days before proceeding to underlying investigations.

According to your last period (on 3rd January), your expected due date was on 1st-3rd February as previous cycle was regular. We consider normal thing in case of 1-7 days alteration of period due date. It is mostly associated with hormonal imbalance or stress/ tension/ anxiety (you have already).

In case of delayed period for more than 7 days, other reasons are ovarian cyst, irregular eating habit, thyroid dysfunction, psychological factors, overweight or extreme weight loss etc.

The possibilities can be narrowed by means of several tests such as Ultrasound (USG) lower abdomen, LH / FSH level, blood estrogen & progesterone levels, thyroid profile, Blood sugar (PPBS) etc.

White vaginal discharge is commonly seen prior to commence period due to effect of progesterone hormone. If it has no bad smell or itching, then you have nothing to worry. Maintenance of genital hygiene is the key to get relief from this condition.

Proper treatment depends upon underlying causative factor. Therefore, I suggest to consult with gynecologist for proper guidance through investigations after a physical examination if your period does not come out.

In the interim, the following measures can be helpful:

1) Take healthy diet with vitamin & iron supplements.
2) Control body weight by regular physical exercise.
3) Avoid stress/anxiety by yoga/deep breathing regularly (20-30 times).
4) Drink plenty of fluids/water and eat more vegetables/ fruits.
5) Try to adjust working place or discuss your problem with colleague.
6) Maintain personal hygiene and need adequate sleeping by complete relaxation.

Hope I have answered your query. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help.

Wish your good health & practice safe sex in future.

Regards,
Dr Soumen.

Hi Dr. Soumen,

Thank you VERY much for your information; you have helped me get my first partial sleep in a few days!

I'd like to add some more details to what I told you earlier; my discharges (which, I should mention, I have never seen before.. maybe i never paid attention but this is certainly the first time i notice such discharges) are indeed milky white and have now decreased in amount; they have no odour and no strange structure. Also, I do not have any breast tenderness/increase in size as i usually have before my period, and i am experiencing slight bloating. Due to my crazy work schedule (I am up from 5:30am until 10:30pm every day) I have lost at least 1 kilo in weight (I am only 52kgs and 160 in height) Finally, I have never missed a period in my life, although under stress it does come late, maximum a week although mostly just a two days in difference.

I am satisfied knowing that 1) I cannot get pregnant without intercourse and 2) our foreplay took place on the 23rd which i believe is a few days after my most fertile time. However, I just want to make sure that this is NOT a pregnancy as I cannot risk going to the doctor in Qatar while pregnant out of wedlock (hence my many questions).

Thank you so much for all your help Dr, its very much appreciated.

Hello,

You are most welcome in XXXXXXX platform.

One thing, I can tell you that you need to wait few more days for getting period and if you do not get it, you should undergo above said investigations to rule out possible causative factor after consultation with your gynecologist.

Follow all above said suggestive measures to get period in time by lifestyle modification.

If you do not have any clarifications, you can close the discussion and rate the answer.
