Posted on Tue, 3 May 2016
Question: I have medular sponge kidney disease with multiple kidney stones. I am on a low calcum oxalate high potassium diet related to the kidney disease, stones, and IBS. I take Evista to prevent the osteoporosis and my bone density is normal. I can not take the multivitamins due to the kidney disease. Do I need to take vitamin D. I also have had history of sun poisoning and XXXXXXX cell and squamous cell carcinoma and spend very little time outdoors or in sun. I live in ND

Brief Answer:
I will suggest that you get your serum VitD levels controlled first!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about this diagnosis of medullary sponge kidney disease. even the delicate state of your health and the need not to administer any drug if it is not very necessary, I will suggest that you get VITD serum levels measured and let’s treat accordingly. Also, I will suggest that you make a conscious effort at getting more sunlight exposure than before as this is a natural and very good way to get this much needed an necessary VITD.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be. Above all, thanks for using our services.
