Question: Hello, I have a question about my 9 yr 9 month old daughter DOB mar 31/2006. I am concerned because she just started her period . Here is her medical history to the best of my recollection. At her 7 year annual physical in Aug 2013, there were no concerns with her development she was about 64 pounds and 50.75 inches tall and no signs of puberty. I recall sometime that fall or winter, noticing some body odor after exercise (she plays hockey) and then later some breast budding. I took her to her pediatrician in XXXXXXX of 2014 with puberty concerns (she was just over 8 yrs old). Her heigth was 53.75 inches and weight was 73 pounds. Doctor noted premature puberty (she had hair in both armpits -just a little) and "induration beneath areola region" (doctors' chart notes) and very little pubic hair. Doctor told me not to worry. Since that time she has developed a lot. She has breasts (albeit small) and full pubic and armpit hair. At her last physical (Dec 21/2015) doctor noted in chart that puberty was "far in advance". Her weight was 91 lbs and height 60.75 inches. She also has been getting pimples on her face. Emotionally i haven't seen much change. I expressed concern that she was developing early and her doctor was not worried (she had not started her period yet). Her physician retired on Dec 31 of this year and that is the day she started her period so i could not contact her physician. I am concerned this is too early. Everything seemed to go so fast with her development. (budding to menstruation in 1.5 yrs). If it is genetic, it is not from me (I started menstruating at 12) and i don't believe any of my 3 sisters or mother was early either. (I don't know about my husbands side). Should she be evaluated for precocious puberty ? Is it too late to treat( and should we)? What are the odds that there is something wrong ? (tumor etc. , my brother has had a benign brain tumor that continues to grow and was removed 5 times and they think my nephew may have one..MRI showed a small growth). Please advice me. Thank you. (I do have an appointment for her to see my physician next week)
