Is The Left Arm Pain Indicative Of A Cardiac Issue?

default
Posted on Tue, 21 Nov 2017
Question: How can you tell if inner upper left arm pain is cardiac related? Over the past few days I get this deep ache in the inside of my arm, or a burning, almost like I have a tourniquet on my arm. It comes and goes. Sometimes when I am having it I will also feel pain in my back or a sensation in my neck, but not always. Also sometimes I may feel a little weird in the head, sometimes my body temp fluctuates. Then it kind of fades away. It has happened in the past but before it was worse in my right arm and only sometimes in the left arm. I had one really bad episode where my arms were aching so bad and my chest and back felt weird. I had gone to the ER but they said my EKG and labs were fine and maybe I just was having vasospasms. Then months later when I went for surgery and said I had EKG changes, but it was just a new incomplete right bundle branch block. How do I know if I should take this seriously or just brush it off?

Detailed Answer:
Hello Ma'am

After going through the medical details provided by you I understand your concern for your health and I would like to tell you that although the symptoms which you are experiencing directs us straight towards the need of evaluation of cardiac issues.

However Considering Your Age and sex it seems highly unlikely as young females are naturally protected from ischemic heart disease till menopause. But we should give it a benefit of doubt and should go for cardiac evaluation.

As you have mentioned there were ecg changes so I would like to suggest you to get a stress echo done as it's highly sensitive in detecting and unmasking underlying myocardial ischeamia.

Also if you take big pillow while sleep try using a thin flat pillow for a couple of weeks.

I hope this information will be helpful and will answer your query.

Kind Regards
