Question: Is Subcision treatment effective and safe for acne (ice pick) scars?

Hello Doctor,

Earlier, on this site I asked doctor treatment for my ice pick scars (attached my acne scar pictures to my profile) and he suggested me TCA CROSS 80%-100% peel or CO2 Fractional laser.

I contacted doctor in my home town and he suggested me this Subcision and said that I wouldn't need more than one sitting. I wanted to take a second opinion if this is safe enough and effective. Also how much will it cost on an average in XXXXXXX

Thank you.

Brief Answer:
The choice of best procedure would depend on the expertise of a doctor

Detailed Answer:
Hello. Thank you once again for your query to us

I have answered your previous query related to the the same concern.
I can recapitulate that I had suggested CROSS procedure either alone Or combined with chemical peels/ fractional CO 2 Laser and I am still of the same view. However, it depends on the expertise of treating doctor regarding the choice of best procedure. My choice of best procedure may be a little different one from that of another of my doctor colleague. That is absolutely normal in a world of possibilities.
Subcision is also an effective procedure for acne scars though not a particularly good choice for Ice pick scars. "Subcision is mainly for rolling or box-car type of acne scars rather than ice-pick scars" and as far as what I can see from the Images you mainly had Ice-pick scars. Nevertheless, improvement can be expected to an extent even with subcision.
Subcision is a very minor and safe procedure wherein fibrous bands holding down on to a depressed scar are broken/ sliced with the help of a needle so as to release that particular depressed scar and make it more level. Subcision is usually a single sitting procedure because the fibrous band can be broken/ sliced effectively in a single sitting itself and the patient usually does not require another sitting of subcision.
Cost would vary from doctor to doctor.
