Brief Answer:
Medicines and physiotherapy are tried first.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
Frozen shoulder at the age of 62 can be due to diabetes and inactivity. The first treatment is pain killers, oral muscle relaxants, hot fomentation and regular physiotherapy exercises to gradually increase the range of movement of the shoulder joint. In case this does not help and the pain is persistent then local steroid injections are given to reduce the pain and inflammation. In some cases, surgical arthroscopic technique is needed to decrease the adhesions and conserve the movement of shoulder joint.
The treatment is planned according to the response to medicines and physical therapy.
I hope this answers your query.

Thanks a lot Doctor
My mother is exercising regularly but pain persists.
She dont like to take pain killers as pain is bearable.
But range of movement of hand is not increasing.
So doctor prescribed to have local steroid injection.
I would like to know how effective it is and what are possible side effects of it
Thanks and Regards

Brief Answer:
Details below.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
The pain killers are not only for pain but are to reduce the inflammation also. Not taking the pain killers do not allow the inflammation to reduce and will hinder with her proper physiotherapy. The range of movement will not increase if blood glucose is not well controlled and the inflammation does not reduce.
Local steroid injection will also gradually decrease the inflammation. It is effective for 2-3 months and then a repeat injection may be needed. Repeated injections can cause degenerative changes in the joint and can cause decreased bone density in the long term. One or two injections are safe.
Hope my answer is helpful.
