Is Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation Therapy An Effective Therapeutic Tool For Depression?

default
Posted on Wed, 23 Aug 2017
Question: I recently finished a full round of rTMS. Unfortunately, it didn't help that much for me. So, now I am attempting to go through a rigorous process of Therapy with a psychologist. And then, upon finishing his indication of being finished... I plan to repeat the TMS all over again.
Do you feel this is a good plan...?

Detailed Answer:
Hello, and thanks for your question.

Unfortunately, rTMS is largely still an investigational intervention, and if it did not help for you in this latest round of treatment, it is not likely to help in the future. Instead, weekly or twice-weekly therapy with a psychologist, for a period of at least one year, is likely to be of much greater benefit to you. I recommend pursuing the therapy and focusing less on rTMS.
