Is Recovery Possible When Having Cortical Blindness?

default
Posted on Thu, 23 Apr 2015
Question: My father had a stroke 2 weeks ago leaving his left side paralysed. He has suffered damage to both sides of the ocipital lobes and has cortical blindness. Is there any chance the blood supply to the eyes could return and partial vision restored? How long does recovery take?

Can incontinence caused by stroke be cured?

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thank you for your question.
After a stroke it depends upon the extent of the damage to the visual centers as to whether or not there can be recovery of vision. Some patients with total loss of vision are able to recover some vision. Some patients do not recover any vision. Same with incontinence too. If he is able to recover vision the rehabilitation process could take many months. He needs to see a stroke specialist and therapists trained in helping people recover vision after a stroke.
